Common questions

Why is there a background in my SVG?

Preview Style includes the sheet background. Choose Cricut Pen Layers and export a fresh file for transparent drawing layers. A white workspace in Design Space does not, by itself, mean your SVG has a white rectangle.

Why does Cricut want to cut instead of draw?

Set the imported drawing layers to Pen in Design Space and assign your pen colours. Use Attach to preserve their placement; grouping alone is not a substitute. BlueprintPlotter exports the file but does not set the machine's tool.

Will the grid be drawn?

Yes, when the grid is enabled in a Cricut Pen Layers export it is drawing geometry, not just decoration. Set its layer to Pen too. Turn the grid off before exporting if you do not want it plotted.

Why is my lettering outlined rather than filled?

Text is converted to paths so it survives import. Enable Fill large lettering to add pen strokes inside larger headings, and choose the width of your intended pen. Small lettering remains outlined. Export again after changing these settings.

Keep the exported physical size in Design Space: scaling the SVG also scales the spaces between fill strokes. Test a small heading on your paper first.

Why can I not select an edge dimension?

Enable Feature dimensions, then Choose dimensions on drawing and click a highlighted visible edge. Hidden or very short edges, or edges without room for a clear callout, may not be available. Enlarge the view and try again.

Why is a hidden edge incorrect?

Visibility is calculated separately for each view, but complex or imperfect STL meshes can still produce ambiguous results. Send a screenshot showing the view and the edge you expected to be solid or dashed. Please review the drawing before using it.

Why does my model import slowly or fail?

Check that the file is an ASCII or binary STL, not another format with a renamed extension. Highly detailed meshes can take longer; simplify or decimate a copy in your modelling software. Malformed files and models outside the app's size or complexity limits are rejected.

Are my models uploaded?

No. BlueprintPlotter processes imported STL models locally on your Mac; it does not upload them or require an account. If you choose to send a model for support or import an export into another service, that is separate from the app's local processing.

What can I export for free?

You can save one view as an SVG for free to test your drawing workflow. Free exports include a small BlueprintPlotter credit in the title block. The optional one-time Export Unlock removes the credit and enables complete multi-view SVG export.

I bought Export Unlock. Why is export still locked?

Choose Export, then Restore Purchases. Make sure the Mac is using the same Apple Account that made the purchase, then relaunch the app. If it still does not restore, contact support with the app and macOS version. Do not send receipts containing personal information.

Useful details to include:

  • Your BlueprintPlotter version and macOS version.
  • What you tried, what happened, and what you expected.
  • A screenshot, plus export profile, paper size and pen settings if relevant.
  • For plotting issues, your machine and Design Space version.

Do not include confidential designs or personal details in screenshots. Only attach an STL or SVG if you have permission to share it; a small non-sensitive example is best.
